She is considered a special woman, not only in the parish of Bergkirchen: Eva Hönigschmid turns 100 on Thursday.

Eisolzried - A very special woman is celebrating her 100th birthday today: Eva Hönigschmid. Despite her old age, the jubilee from Eisolzried is still lively, humorous and cosmopolitan.

Books are as much part of Hönigschmid's life as music. She plays the piano, was organist in Deutenhausen for ten years and sang in the church choir in Bergkirch. In 2015 she was awarded the silver medal by the municipality of Bergkirchen for her services in December. The jubilee laid the foundation stone for the community library and enriched the cultural life with her contributions.

She grew up in a wealthy, influential industrial family in the South Moravian village of Kwassitz (now Kvasice) as the spoiled daughter Eva von Proskowetz. At home, she says, things were very elegant: "A servant with white gloves was serving." She learned Czech, German was spoken in her parents' house, and she spoke French to the governess. In 1939 she began studying chemistry in Munich. There she met two members of the "White Rose" while fencing: Christoph Probst and Alexander Schmorell, with whom she felt particularly close. She refused to transport leaflets out of respect for her family.

As a contemporary witness, she has repeatedly reported on this formative phase of life, on flight and fears, but also on hope and happiness, recently in a ZDF report.

Eva Hönigschmid had a close friendship with Max Mannheimer, who died in September 2016, the writer, artist and vice-president of the International Dachau Committee, who, like her, came from Moravia, was also born on February 6, 1920, and who therefore gave birth to her “twin "Called.

Eva Hönigschmid was happily married to her “childhood sweetheart” Wolfgang for 65 years. Initially, the couple had lived a luxurious life in Prague with their two children. When Wolfgang was drafted in November 1942, the young woman moved to the country with her parents, until it became politically "dangerous" in 1944 and she first found refuge in Austria.

"I've always been lucky," she said in the storytelling café in Bergkirch, for example when, due to the war, she was left with nothing - without a job and with two children. Her husband was also lucky, he returned safely from the war.

Two more boys were born, the family finally settled in Eisolzried, which reminded Hönigschmid of Moravia. Eisolzried was her “new home”, where she still feels she belongs. “Everything had to be that way. Everyone has their life. I have luxury here, my house and my garden. ”

Eva Hönigschmid immortalized herself in the municipality of Bergkirchen in 2015 when her family with the sons, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in coordination with the municipality of Bergkirchen, came up with the idea of planting a walnut tree at the Bruggerhaus on the occasion of their 95th birthday. The jubilee is also the author of an audio path that was installed here last year. INGRID KOCH
