Frankfurt Airport: Passenger reports of incident at Lufthansa flight

The plane vibrated strongly throughout the return flight. The pilot had decided to fly back to Frankfurt Airport, which was announced by an announcement as a "pure precautionary measure". The defective engine was switched off, but the vibrations would have continued anyway.

A Lufthansa spokesman said the incident was known to the airline. The problem with the engine was an unusual vibration. After the engine was idled, these would have stopped. There was no danger to the passengers or crew.

However, the passenger told Tag24.de that things had gotten worse: "A few seconds after the second blow, acrid smoke poured into the cabin and the crew asked us to only breathe through our clothes," the passenger is quoted as saying. However, the Lufthansa press office is not aware of any of this. Nothing has been reported about smoke development, "the strange instruction to protect yourself through breathing through clothing does not correspond to our intended safety instructions."

Frankfurt Airport: Lufthansa flight to Prague has to turn around

A Lufthansa press spokesman confirmed the incident on request. According to the airline, a stall occurred in engine 1 (on the left in the direction of flight). A stall means that the air doesn't flow through the engine as it should to keep performance constant.

Because of this stall, the crew of the Lufthansa aircraft decided to idle and reverse the engine. What exactly happened is currently not clear. The Aviation Herald reports that a "loud bang" was heard before the engine failed.
