The shooting event comes in the background of the security tension between Israel and Gaza and Judea and Samaria since the US government's century-long deal was launched, during which rocket and mortar gunfire was targeted at Israel in recent days and terrorist attacks aimed at the West Bank.
On Thursday night, fighter jets and aircraft attacked Hamas targets across the Gaza Strip. Among the targets were underground infrastructures used by Hamas' military wing. The IDF said the attack was carried out in response to the mortar shells and the firing of bombs from the Gaza Strip at Israeli territory that day. Two mortar shells were fired into Israeli territory on Wednesday, resulting in warnings in the application in open areas.
