The library in Geretsried can look back on a successful year. The offers were not only well received, there were increases in all areas.
Geretsried - In times of smartphone and streaming services, one could conclude that the good old city library has had its day. The opposite is true in Geretsried. The team on Adalbert-Stifter-Straße addresses a wide range of people with its wide range. "We really had a fantastic year in 2019," reports Björn Rodenwaldt.
At the next meeting (Tuesday, March 10, 5 p.m. in the town hall), the head of the Geretsried city library will present its annual report and the events planned for this year to the city council's culture committee. Rodenwaldt can already report an increase in all areas. 57,086 visitors came to the library last year - a record.

With 166,935 loans, the city library increased again by ten percent compared to 2018, which was also a good year. According to the pure loan figures, the controllers for the Nintendo Switch and the Playstation 4 console are the most popular. They crossed the counter 1846 times to play with it in the library's own gaming room. "This value represents a remarkable increase of 23 percent," says Rodenwaldt.
Among the traditional media, a CD is the leader with a youth audio book (see box). "The nameless opponent" from the "???" was borrowed a total of 30 times. "In order to save our books, we would like to add here: Audiobooks generally have a loan period of 14 days and can therefore be borrowed more often than books that have a four-week loan period," explains the book manager.
Geretsried: Most of the loans were in August
The city library recorded the most loans in August. 16 369 media changed hands this month. This time the top lending family comes from Eurasburg. "It borrowed a total of 1245 media this year," reports Rodenwaldt. The previous year, the Toppe family from Wolfratshausen headed the list with 1,320 media. According to the library, the Eurasburger family would like to remain anonymous.
At the end of 2018, the city inaugurated the modernized children's and youth area, including a gaming room. For Rodenwaldt, the attractive department is one of the reasons why, in 2020, 609 members registered 16 percent more than in the previous year. Members can choose between around 42,000 media in the catalog. Of these, 4,500 were acquired last year, 5,400 were spoiled. The city library also attracts additional visitors with game evenings, readings and exhibitions. In 2019 there were 1284.
In 2020, the library should continue to do so successfully
This should continue this year. "My entire team always comes up with lots of wonderful ideas," says the library manager. All employees would dedicate themselves to their profession and thus the library visitors with great commitment, loyalty and dedication. Rodenwaldt is also grateful to the city's representatives. "We in the library feel the trust in our work and the general cultural affinity of Geretsried."
