"Pensions: the liberal professions have very serious reasons to be worried"

TRIBUNE - The transition to the universal system is detrimental to self-employed workers and aggravates an older malaise, explains the economist Nicolas Bouzou.


In the social unrest caused by the pension reform, the majority also lost the liberal professions. Law and health professionals, in the first place, did not take off. They accuse the government of brutally replacing well-managed autonomous plans with a single plan that is less advantageous for them, while at the same time taking control of the accumulated surpluses thanks to stubbornly careful management. This diagnosis is partly correct, but the question of pensions cannot exhaust that of the malaise of the liberal professions.

Clearly, a number of Liberals will be financially penalized by the transition to the universal system. The application of the single contribution rate of 28.12% until once the Social Security ceiling (known as the Pass, ie 41,136 euros) will generate a sharp increase in contributions for professionals who receive the least income. Of course, the government intends to limit the effect of the increase in these contributions
