Two American soldiers were killed and six wounded in an attack by an Afghan soldier in eastern Afghanistan.
Reuters quoted a spokesman for the American forces in Afghanistan, Sonny Legate, as saying in a statement today that "the current information indicates that an individual wearing an Afghan military uniform opened fire from a machine gun on the American-Afghan joint force."
Leggett said in a statement yesterday that "his forces are assessing the situation and will give additional information about the exposure of a joint US and Afghan force operating in the Nangarhar province to direct fire."
Afghan security sources said that at least one Afghan soldier fired on American soldiers inside a military barracks sheltering them in the east of the country, which caused a number of injuries, probably indicating that there was a long-running clash.
Several Afghan security sources confirmed that the clashes took place between American and Afghan forces.
According to an Afghan government official, "several helicopters landed and took off from the headquarters of the General Command to evacuate the wounded."
It is noteworthy that the past year was the bloodiest for US forces in Afghanistan since the combat operations officially ended at the end of 2014.
Last July, an Afghan soldier killed two members of the American forces while they were visiting an Afghan army base in Kandahar.
