The governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, got into the dispute over the role of federal security forces in Buenos Aires and said he "needs them, but in a coordinated way."
He said it this Tuesday at noon, after leaving a meeting with President Alberto Fernández, Interior Minister Eduardo Wado de Pedro, and Chief of Staff, Santiago Cafiero, at Casa Rosada.
"We speak with total frankness about what the Province needs and what the Nation has. Today we will finish defining it together with the Minister (of National Security, Sabina) Frederic and (the Minister of Security of the Province Sergio) Berni. We've said it a thousand times, we need the federal forces , but in the most coordinated way possible, "he said.
Berni, as Clarín revealed, had sent hours ago a letter to Frederic asking him to withdraw federal forces that are carrying out citizen security tasks in the territory of the Province, such as Prefecture and Gendarmerie.
He referred to the "impossibility of establishing a coordination of the security strategy" between the Province and the Nation.
A few hours later, in a radio interview, Fernández made explicit his disavowal to Berni's sayings, by ensuring that he "is not willing" to access his request.
Following the President's response, versions of Berni's departure from office began to circulate in La Plata, which was denied by officials close to Kicillof.
Regarding the debate that divided the ruling party as a result of the existence or not of "political prisoners" in Argentina, Kicillof lowered his tone and avoided generating more controversy: "It is an issue that Justice has to resolve . "
