General anesthesia would increase risk of postpartum depression

Using general anesthesia during caesarean sections could increase the risk of mothers experiencing postpartum depression, according to a recent study by Columbia University, the first to analyze the possible effects of different types of anesthesia on caesarean sections. Both its authors and other academics warn that the conclusions of this study are preliminary and more research is needed.
