Police have launched an investigation on suspicion of child abuse in Bnei Brak. The investigation was opened after a complaint was received against a kindergarten aid. This is a private garden in a city where toddlers stay for one to three years. The complaint was received for exercising physical force against a toddler. The aide was questioned by police and released for house arrest.
Yesterday, the Rehovot Magistrate's Court convicted therapist Zippora David of beating an 11-month-old baby in Ness Ziona. David was convicted of abusing the baby as part of a plea bargain signed with the prosecutor's office after the parties reached agreements on facts in the indictment, but controversy remained over the issue of the conviction.
The indictment, filed against 65-year-old David from a low-slung Beit Oved seat last May, shows that she abused the baby on several occasions, including slapping him in the face, shouting at him, throwing him on the couch and the rug and clutching a towel in front of him while strangling him. In addition, she threatened the baby to kill him. Suspicions against David arose after the baby's parents installed security cameras in their home. In the documentation, she seems to slap him and throw him on the couch. The baby parents contacted police who arrested David.
