US President Donald Trump has threatened to take "disciplinary action" against Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander Vendmann, a former US National Security Council official who was sacked after testifying at Trump's impeachment trial.

Vendemann was one of the most important witnesses in the trial of isolating Trump and warned of the danger of the call that the US President made on the 25th of last July with his Ukrainian counterpart, Vladimir Zelinsky.

"We sent him to a much different place and the military can treat him as he wants," The New York Times quoted Trump as saying.

Asked if he was hinting that Vendemand could face "disciplinary action," Trump said, "It is up to the military and it certainly is as I imagine they will look into it."

"In his testimony during a session devoted to Trump's trial aimed at isolating him," Vendman said, "Trump's request to conduct an investigation with former Vice President Joe Biden, his potential Democratic rival in the 2020 presidential election, and his son Hunter during a phone call last July with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelinsky." As Trump replied, "I was clearly unhappy with the work he did ... Vindemann spoke before anything about an incorrect call."

Trump, as expected, after escaping accountability and exonerating him in the Senate, launched a retaliatory campaign against his opponents who participated in his trial on charges of obstructing Congress and abusing power, which he began by sacking the US ambassador to the European Union, Gordon Soundland, and expelling Vendemann from the White House.

Democratic representatives and several American media outlets described Trump's move against Sundland and Vendemann, who testified as part of the investigations aimed at removing him from his post as a "quick punishment" or "retaliation" against those who revealed his abuses or declared their willingness to testify before the House in the context of His trial against the background of his request to help Ukraine to intervene in the upcoming US presidential elections.
