The pneumonia epidemic in Wuhan has continued to expand, and there is a surge in panic buying across the port. The World Health Organization (WHO) has also pointed out that it is too early to predict when the epidemic will end. The director of the Education Bureau, Yang Runxiong, met with the media in the west of the government headquarters this morning (13), stating that the epidemic has not shown signs of decline and that the situation has spread, so the Board of Education decided to continue to suspend classes. He announced that the earliest resumption day for primary and secondary schools and kindergartens would be extended from March 2 to no later than March 16. The third test of P6 will be cancelled.

As for the Diploma Examination (DSE), the Education Bureau maintains the decision at the end of this month, that is, it still maintains that if the written test fails on March 27, it will be postponed for about one month, and the test will not start until April.

Advise Mainland students not to return to Hong Kong for the time being

As for cross-border students, Yang described them as Hong Kong students. The Education Bureau must take care of and protect their health, and the health risks of frequent travel to and from the two places are worthy of attention. It is suggested that students in the Mainland should not return to Hong Kong for the time being. If different schemes will resume the lessons in stages, the actual date of resumption of classes is not yet determined. Therefore, it is emphasized that the Education Bureau has not made a final decision on the arrangements for resuming cross-border students.

Regarding the diploma test, Yang Runxiong stated that the previous arrangement would be maintained, and a written test would be held at the end of this month as scheduled in late March, otherwise the test would be postponed to April 24.
