Four months after the legislative elections, Tunisia still awaits its government

The new Prime Minister-designate must present his team this Friday, before the Parliament test.


" Crisis, deadlock, puzzle ": the Tunisian press is hardly optimistic while the Prime Minister-designate, Elyes Fakhfakh, announced that he would present his government proposal this Friday evening. It must be said that the Tunisians are scalded. They have been waiting for this cabinet since the legislative elections on October 6 and have already failed in January. Will Elyes Fakhfakh do better than Habib Jemli? On January 10, after two months of negotiations, Parliament rejected the government of Habib Jemli, proposed by Ennahdha, the party that won the October legislative elections (see below). In accordance with the Constitution, it was the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, who appointed, on January 20, a new Prime Minister in the person of Elyes Fakhfakh after consultation with the political parties. This choice is a surprise.
