Initially only for asylum seekers, now for everyone: The Poingen bike workshop can now be used by everyone.

Poing - After the first refugees had also arrived and been accommodated in Poing about five years ago, a problem quickly emerged: In order to get from A to B, even over longer distances, a means of transport is needed, and cheap. "The Poing bicycle workshop was born out of this need," reports the Energy and Environmental Advisory Board of the municipality of Poing in a balance sheet. In the meantime, the workshop is not only open to asylum seekers, but to every Poingen citizen. If you want to fix something on your bike, just drop by and get help from volunteers. Open every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Oh, where? On the ground floor of the old parsonage at Anzinger Strasse 16. The Catholic parish has made the premises available.

Spare parts can be recycled free of charge from the existing scrap bikes, informs the energy and environmental advisory board, "You can also buy a few things at cost price". If you don't have a bike, you can choose one from the pool, repair it and take it with you for a fee of 25 euros; A lock, usually worth ten euros, has to be bought or your own presented, inform the operator. The workshop receives the bicycles from donations from the recycling center or from the building yard.

There is a lot for free

The bicycle workshop has three workstations with sufficient and good tools for repairs, the energy and environmental advisory board informs: "Come over and repair yourself and, if necessary, a helper can usually give you advice." Helping “customers” themselves, for example, sweeping, pumping up tires from other wheels or removing a light from a scrap wheel for the parts pool.

In the beginning there were old bicycles and spare parts

The Poinger bike workshop was founded by Dennis Urban and Ralf Grabenhorst, who had previously run a workshop for refugees in Pliening on a voluntary basis. They got old bicycles and tools and opened the workshop. Migrants could choose a bike there and prepare it under the guidance of the two founders, so that it was roadworthy and roadworthy. "The repaired bike could then be purchased and taken for a small price," writes the Energy and Environment Advisory Board.

After Urban and Grabenhorst had offered the service for a few years, Jeroen Buters and Uli Bardolatzy took over the management about two years ago. Dennis Urban and Ralf Grabenhorst continue to work, Thomas Belzner and Daniel Winkler also help out if necessary, as well as Torsten Buters and Max Rißmann. Every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for everyone.
