The demolition parties of the Rottach-Egern fire brigade are legendary. Now there is a new edition. We asked where the fun was going and what this tradition was all about.

Rottach-Egern - The former Hotel Franzen, later Carrera, is demolished. In its place on Karl-Theodor-Straße, the construction company Bauen & Wohnen from the Miesbach entrepreneur Franz Kroha will build a residential and commercial building and another residential building. An underground car park with 24 parking spaces is included. According to Christine Obermüller, head of the Rottach building authority, eleven apartments and two to three shops are being built. "We suggested to the client that it would be a nice move if he sold the apartments a little cheaper than is currently the case in Rottach-Egern," reports Obermüller. When asked by the company, it is now said that the prices of the condominiums would actually be below the currently usual prices between 15,000 and 20,000 euros per square meter.

Commander Tobias Maurer

A lot of time has passed since the first planning. Probably also because there was obviously a legal dispute to be resolved with the pizzeria operator. Construction activities are now recognizable, but the final demolition is still pending.

A good opportunity for the Rottach-Egern fire brigade to continue the tradition of the legendary demolition parties there. Commandant Tobias Maurer explains what this is about.

Mr. Maurer, can the carnival fools bring the hammer?

Tobias Maurer: Not at all, even if the party is the last thing that happens there. We already had demolition parties in buildings that weren't torn down. That was the case, for example, in the Kalkofen inn, which is still standing today.

But things are a little more relaxed, right?

Tobias Maurer: Yes, of course, because at this party you don't have to be as careful as it would be at a carnival ball in the Seeforum.

So you've already hosted several demolition parties?

Tobias Maurer: This will be our tenth. The first carnival ball of this kind took place in the former Gasthof Zur Post in Rottach-Egern, today's Postillon. Back then we looked for a name for our carnival ball and then called it a demolition party. The last party of this kind took place in 2017 in the Seeperle on Seestrasse.

How do you get to the buildings?

Tobias Maurer: We walk through the place with open eyes and see if we can find a suitable object anywhere. Of course, it should be a building that had a certain meaning for the place. Of course, we don't do anything like this for any house. We'll talk to the owners if they can imagine that. So far we have always had success with it. Now also at the former Hotel Franzen.

What will be on offer?

Tobias Maurer: Let an Italian night rise according to the motto "O sole mio, heid reiss'n mia o!". Italian because the pizzeria paparazzi was there last. Admission is free, which we generally do not require. The live music, the band 'Smile' from Bad Wiessee, will then let a hat go around. Our prices are absolutely human, in the end hopefully a little will be left for the fire brigade association.

This is how the demolition carnival works

The demolition carnival in the former pizzeria Paparazzi at Karl-Theodor-Straße 2a will take place on Friday, February 21. Admission is from 7 p.m. for everyone aged 18 and over The fire department checks the ID cards. There is live music with the band Smile and a bar with a DJ.
