The municipality of Gräfelfing wants to reward entrepreneurial engagement that serves the environment and society. The Committee on Local and Environmental Affairs decided unanimously on Thursday to launch an "Environmental and Public Welfare Award".

Graefelfing - The impetus for this had been given indirectly by an entrepreneurial initiative: Jaegers Feine Kost, Cheese Sturm and Sandros Frutteria wanted to set up a deposit system for reusable containers and had applied for a grant. The community could not grant this for reasons of equal treatment, but found the project worth supporting. This gave rise to the idea of donating a price for such engagement.

Business development agency Sabine Strack set out to look for role models and to write guidelines for the new award. On Thursday, she presented the draft to the committee. Accordingly, companies and start-ups are honored with the "Environmental and Common Good Award", "who are exemplary for issues relating to environmental, climate or nature protection, the common good or that go beyond industry standards social coexistence ".

The prize is awarded once a year. The prize money amounts to a maximum of 4000 euros, which can also be distributed among several award winners. If there are no suitable applicants, the award may not be made. Companies can apply themselves or be proposed.

A jury, which includes the members of the environmental committee, the mayor, the environmental officer of the community, the business development officer and a representative of a Würmtaler environmental association, will decide on the award. The jury does not meet in public and rejected applicants are not published.

The price criteria include, for example, striking environmental commitment, innovations or entrepreneurial activities that serve the environment, climate or nature conservation, and social coexistence. The “Environmental and Common Good Award” could be awarded and awarded for the first time this year.
