More places to stay, a neighborhood café, equalized traffic and speed 30: The Klettham Nord district could change its face dramatically in the next few years - and thus become more citizen-friendly.

More places to stay, a neighborhood café, equalized traffic and speed 30: The Klettham Nord district could change its face dramatically in the next few years - and thus become more citizen-friendly.

Klettham - "It is exciting after nine months, like giving birth." OB Max Gotz, together with around 40 citizens from the Erding-Nord district in the auditorium of the FOS / BOS, looked forward to the presentation of the integrated neighborhood development concept, developed by two planning offices. It is about ideas for a future development of the district, in which many Kletthamers also participated in a kick-off event and two workshops (we reported).

"We're not just talking about citizen participation, we have it," said Gotz. “There are major processes of change in this district, because soldiers from the air base moved into the first accommodations a good 50 years ago. They primarily needed living space, but their communication locations were in the barracks. ”Today, however, Tobias Preising from the Planwerk office in Nuremberg, mostly older people with many nationalities dominated in Klettham-Nord.

Redeemer Church as a new center

There are relatively few children. Above all, this is the popular expression of Klettham citizens, attractive meeting places, a calm driving and parking traffic with more one-way streets, a neighborhood park and possibly a separate weekly market in the neighborhood are desired.

Planner Denis Ohrenschall from the Munich office SEP bundled the residents' wishes into three development goals: "It is about supply and mobility, about leisure, culture and meeting points as well as the location and interior development." These points would have resulted from a so-called "ideas tree" established in summer 2019.

His office colleague Jochen Baur showed how and where a central area for all Kletthamers, a neighborhood square, could develop. He presented the excited listening plenary with a large meeting area around the Erlöserkirche on Friedrichstrasse. Here, the previous small kiosk should also be included, as well as inviting more spacious green areas in front of the apartment buildings to linger.

The former St. Prosper restaurant, previously home to workers' welfare and once the blackboard, could be converted into a neighborhood café. “The Redeemer Church already offers well-located areas. The parking lot opposite the kiosk could perhaps become a marketplace once a week, ”explained Baur, who also sees a newly created bus stop nearby with barrier-free entry. "In addition, the space in front of the AOK could be enlarged," he suggested.

"We should also urgently correct the parking situation at the Thomas-Wimmer-Straße / Riverastraße intersection," advised Baur. In general, according to the planners, the traffic situation needs a "thorough restructuring". In the whole area they imagine speed 30, want to move the bicycle traffic from the dangerous Siglfinger to Almfeldstrasse and Karlstrasse because the cyclists' protective strips could not be implemented in the streets due to the lack of width.

Others, like the residents Gerd Hohlbach and Herta Brydon, called for more one-way streets and a defused parking situation on Karlstrasse. Planner Baur: "One-way streets always shift the flow of traffic to other streets and invite you to drive faster."

Gotz: We need private space

Finally, Baur was able to make the idea of a neighborhood park on the open meadow along the corridor attractive to the assembly. “Tree islands and walking paths could be created here, possibly a skating ground, a connection between the playground there and the sports area. The gastronomy at Rot-Weiß Klettham could also be enhanced by a cozy beer garden. ”However, according to the planner, crossing aids for pedestrians on the busy Siglfinger Straße would then be absolutely necessary.

Urban developer Christian Famira-Parcsetich looked ahead. All ideas would be submitted to the city council for decision. Up to 60 percent of the subsidy from the urban development funding program "Social City" could be used for implementation. Gotz promised those present to continue developing the Klettham-Nord neighborhood project "with vigor". But at the same time he limited: “We as a city can enact new one-way regulations promptly because we have the sovereignty. But for the structural implementation of the other projects, we first need some private space. But getting these is usually not easy. "
