Manchester City was excluded from European competitions for the next two seasons due to breaches of the rules of the financial fair play, UEFA announced Friday.

Josep Guardiola's team, second currently classified in the English Premier League and qualified for the round of 16 of the Champions League, was also punished with a fine of 30 million euros.

These sanctions are subject to appeal, UEFA said, and shortly after hearing the sanction, Manchester City announced in a statement that it will take the case to the Arbitral Sports Court (TAS).

However, the English club alleges irregularities in the investigation of the entity that regulates European football and announced that it will seek "an impartial trial."

The sanction is also given, within the framework of England's exit from the European Union, with what remains to see what will happen to non-British players who are members of the citizenry, including Argentines Sergio Agüero, who had promised to retire in Independiente and Nicolás Otamendi, linked with River in the last hours for his sympathy for the Núñez club.

Next, UEFA's statement and Manchester City's response:

Sanction

UEFA takes note of the decision of the Independent Adjudicative Chamber of the Club Financial Control Corps (CFCB), issued on Friday, which included the following summary of its content and effect to be announced as required by the Rules of Procedure that govern the CFCB: "After a hearing held on January 22, 2020, the Adjudication Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body (CFCB), chaired by José da Cunha Rodrigues, has notified the Manchester City Football Club of the final decision on the case that was referred by the CFCB Chief of Researchers.

The Award Chamber, after considering all the evidence, discovered that the Manchester City Football Club committed serious violations of the UEFA Club Licensing and Financial Game Regulations by exaggerating its sponsorship income in its accounts and in the balance information presented to UEFA between 2012 and 2016.

The Award Chamber also found that, in violation of the regulations, the Club did not cooperate in the investigation of this case by the CFCB.

The Chamber of Awards has imposed disciplinary measures on the Manchester City Football Club that mandates the exclusion of participation in UEFA club competitions in the next two seasons (i.e., the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons) and to pay a € 30 million fine. .

The decision of the Judicial Chamber is subject to appeal before the Court of Sports Arbitration (CAS). If the Manchester City Football Club exercises that right, the full reasoned decision of the Judicial Chamber will not be published before the final award is published by the CAS. "

As noted by the Adjudication Chamber, the club has the right to appeal this decision to the Court of Sports Arbitration. Therefore, UEFA will not comment further on this decision at this stage.

Manchester City responds

Manchester City is disappointed but not surprised by today's announcement from the UEFA Chamber of Judgment. The Club has always anticipated the ultimate need to seek an independent body and process to impartially consider the integral body of irrefutable evidence in support of its position.

In December 2018, the UEFA chief investigator publicly anticipated the result and the penalty he intended to send to Manchester City, even before any investigation began. UEFA's subsequent defective and constantly leaked process that it monitored has meant that there is little doubt about the result it will deliver. The Club has formally complained to the UEFA disciplinary body, a complaint that was validated by a CAS ruling.

Simply put, this is a case initiated by UEFA, processed by UEFA and judged by UEFA. With this injurious process now over, the Club will seek an impartial trial as quickly as possible and, therefore, in the first instance, will begin the proceedings before the Court of Sports Arbitration as soon as possible.
