New coronaviruses are raging, and the supply of full-face masks is in short supply. Chief Executive Lin Zhengyue said earlier that he has issued internal guidelines to government departments. Three major criteria are required to wear masks, including those who need to work on the front line or in densely populated areas. Recently, police officers reported that they had spoken in a communication group and complained to high-level officials. They spurned the police to stop sending masks to the officers, saying that if the officers were infected, they would also contact the frontline of the police station. The police responded to "Hong Kong 01" enquiries, stating that the Police Force would continue to follow internal guidelines issued by the government and distribute masks to colleagues if they met the guidelines.

Recently, a complaint letter suspected to have been written by the police's field staff was circulated inside the police. The last paragraph was to the senior staff of the East Kowloon Police District, stating that the police had recently only distributed 1 mask per day to frontline officers, but stopped sending masks to the staff. The letter stated that if the back-office personnel were infected, they would also contact frontline personnel who returned to the police station. "His Majesty will return to work when the time comes". He blame the stop masks for making mistakes and believes that the police should protect every colleague at work.

Police: Continue to follow internal government guidelines

A spokesman for the Police's Public Relations Division responded to enquiries that the Police Force had developed a set of work guidelines for dealing with infectious diseases, which covered a range of units and personal protection measures, and ensured that adequate personal protection items were available for use by personnel to complement the health protection of the Department of Health Guidelines and recommendations made by the Centre. The spokesman emphasized that the Police Force would continue to follow the internal guidelines issued by the government and distribute masks to colleagues if the guidelines were met, and police officers would continue to carry out their daily police work as usual. However, the spokesperson's response did not mention whether masks have been distributed to field staff.

Lin Zhengyue: You need to wear a mask according to three major criteria

The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, did not wear a mask when she held a press conference on the 4th of this month. At that time, she pointed out that the global search and purchase of masks by the Hong Kong Government was not very successful. Therefore, the government must use masks with caution. Send internal guidelines to government departments, and you need to wear masks according to three major criteria, including: first, you don't want to affect patients because you feel uncomfortable; second, you need to perform front-line work; third, you need to work in densely populated places.

Lin Zheng also threatened at the time that some officials who did not meet the standards proposed by the government and wore masks, "Dai Li told you to get rid of them." However, she later apologized for the remarks. The Chief Executive said that officials would assess the risks, decide whether to wear masks in public, and emphasized that the guidelines did not apply to masks provided by civil servants.
