The combination of the high level with strong eastern winds caused a storm in the stage and thousands of visitors visited the place over the weekend. In Tiberias they welcomed the rise in water, but expressed concern over the opening of the Degania dam that could flood the beaches and cause damage. View pictures from the Sea of Galilee

Only one meter and 14 inches were missing yesterday morning (Friday) for a full Kinneret. A second winter, blessed with rain, raised the lake's level. A combination of the high level with strong (shark) easterly winds blowing all weekend caused the Sea of Galilee to crash, and on the eastern shores of the lake the waves crashed on the beaches to high altitude.

This is particularly evident in the Tiberias promenade, where thousands of visitors lasted for the special play over the weekend. Oshri Weizman, a resident of the city and the operator of the Facebook page "Tiberias News," said that many years ago such beautiful pictures no longer appeared on the beaches of Tiberias. "It's really a blessing and fills the heart with joy," he described. "The entire public feels that way and the masses have come to see the Sea of Galilee at its peak. I hope the Sea of Galilee will continue to rise and not open the Degania Dam."

Last week, the Water Authority announced several critical highs that would be instructed to open the Degania Dam. The upcoming spot will test on February 29. If the level is half a meter from the top red line, the dam will open. Based on the level measured yesterday we are 84 cm far from this point.

In the winter of 2004 the Sea of Galilee was 20 cm higher than today, so it was decided not to open the dam. That winter, the possibility of changing the upper red line was also considered and allowing the level to rise by another ten cm.

However, it should be remembered that in the winter of 1968-69 the Sea of Galilee rose rapidly and when the dam opened, it was already too late and the amount of water entering the lake was significantly larger than the volume of water released. As a result, the Sea of Galilee flooded many beaches and damaged businesses.

Tiberias still remember that 14 bathing beaches suffered financial losses that winter, and now, along with the enthusiasm and joy of the rise, there is concern that more sharks combined with higher levels could hit the city's beaches.
