Democratic nominee Pete Buttigej has opened the primaries well with a win in Iowa and a tight second place in New Hampshire, and at the same time, has increased male sexual orientation throughout the United States. Butige, a former mayor of New South Bend, Indiana, is only 38 years old and has no real political experience. If he succeeds in astonishing America and defeating President Donald Trump in November, he too will be the first gay president in state history, but is the country really ready for that?

According to conservative radio commentator Head Limbaugh, a close ally of Trump who even won the Presidential Medal of Freedom this month, the answer is no. Limbo, who recently said he has advanced cancer, said last Wednesday that Democrats should understand that America is "not ready yet" to elect a gay president, "kissing his husband on stage."

Trying to imagine Democrats' deliberations among all candidates, Limbo, known for his racist and homophobic statements over the years, said: "They say, 'Okay, what is it going to look like? 37-year-old gay kisses his husband on stage, opposite the man, Donald Trump.'

Butige did not comment directly on Limbo's words, but said at an election event Thursday in Las Vegas, Nevada: "I'm proud of my marriage. I'm proud of my husband." Beyond that, his campaign refused to address the issue, but the mayor has been backed by his Democratic rivals for race, Republicans and even Trump's.

"I think so," the president said when asked in an interview with Fox News if he was ready to vote for a gay candidate. "I guess there are some who don't, but I'm not part of this group, to be honest. I don't think it hurts Pete Buttige."

According to a Pew Institute study, the proportion of Americans supporting same-sex marriage stands at 61 percent, a figure that has stabilized in recent years after a steady rise for a decade. Former Vice President Joe Biden, defeated by Buttagej in the first two Democratic primaries in Iowa and New Hampshire, was cast in limbo. In an ABC interview, he said, "It's part of the corruption of this administration ... Pete and I are competing, but this guy has respect, courage and is insanely smart."

"Freedom of expression still exists"

On the other hand, conservatives came out in limbo's defense. Federalist Magazine claimed that the radio presenter's comments were not homophobic. "Activists in the Buttagej campaign himself have asked these questions to decide how he should approach the fact that he is the first declared gay presidential candidate," the article said.

Senior Republican Sen. Lindsay Graham of South Carolina said "I think the state is not going to disqualify anyone because of their sexual orientation." But he protested against the call to deprive Limbo of the presidential medal of liberty bestowed on him by First Lady Melania Trump: "Well, God, freedom of speech still exists."

Ben Ferguson, a conservative radio presenter, said that in his plan he spoke to Democratic voters who are unsure if Buttagej's sexual orientation would not interfere with defeating Trump. "There are a surprising number of Democratic voters who said this was a problem for them," the filing told CNN. "Reality is what Limbo said."

In Iowa's primaries last week, one voter asked to cancel her vote after discovering that Boutage was gay. "I don't want anyone like that in the White House," she said. "Can I get my ticket back?"
