Update of February 4, 2020: The first German soap opera went on air on December 8, 1985, setting a milestone on German television. Lindenstraße: Cult series finale becomes a weekend marathon for the most loyal fans

In the early morning hours of March 29 and 30, a total of eleven episodes of Lindenstrasse will be repeated. The WDR announced on Tuesday in a press release. The first day starts at 1:30 with the pilot episode "Welcome", which celebrated its television premiere in December 1985. Since Lindenstrasse has often treated social taboos of the past 35 years, such as love between homosexual couples, xenophobia or suicide, the selected episodes of the marathon will also be episodes that have touched in the past.

As part of the special marathon, the famous kiss between Carsten Flöter and Robert Engel from 1990 is shown, which polarized at the time and outraged the Archdiocese of Cologne so much that it prohibited further kisses between gay men. The Technik Museum Speyer has been showing a permanent exhibition on Lindenstraße since 2012 and will take over further exhibits after the end. The Deutsche Kinemathek in Berlin will have its own exhibition on the series until the end of March 2020. "Live, die, celebrate a wedding - Die Lindenstraße in the television media library".

The end of the German TV cult series was preceded by the serial death of an ancient rock on Lindenstrasse.
