Nothing new under the sun: a collapsing love rating has become the rule and not the exception for a president of the Fifth Republic. Less than one in four French people today trust Emmanuel Macron (24% according to the Kantar-Sofres barometer of February 2020 for Figaro Magazine ). At the same time, in the 32nd month of his mandate, Nicolas Sarkozy had fallen to 30% and François Hollande to 23% (after a low of 15% in autumn 2014). Scores, it should be remembered, much lower than those of François Mitterrand (47%) and Jacques Chirac (44%) measured at this stage of their first mandate (then a seven-year term).
