The storm Dennis hits Europe on Sunday with torrential rains and strong winds, which left a provisional balance of one dead, while leaving hundreds of planes on the ground and forced the army to mobilize.

At the end of Sunday morning a man died after falling to the Tawe River in South Wales , authorities said, while flood alerts multiplied.

On Sunday at noon, 594 "ongoing warnings and warnings against floods" had been recorded, an unpublished figure in the United Kingdom, the Environment Agency (EA) said in a tweet.

This occurs in an area that extends from the south of Scotland to Cornwall (southwest of England), where several rivers are steep.

In Aberdaron, south Wales , winds of more than 145 km / h were measured. The British Meteorological Institute (Met) placed South Wales on a red alert, the highest level, due to the heavy rains that Dennis brought.

A red alert is equivalent to "dangerous weather conditions" that generate a "risk of death", as well as danger of disturbance in the energy supply and damage to infrastructure.

In South Wales, 132.8 mm of rain fell between Saturday morning and Sunday morning, the equivalent of a month of rainfall in this period in the region, according to MET.

Evacuations were ordered especially in the Welsh town of Skenfrith, police in the Gwent County to which it belongs.

Two bodies were found on Saturday off the coast of southern England , in a rough sea, when the storm began. It is unknown if these deaths are linked to the Dennis storm.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Defense deployed the army in West Yorkshire, an area in northern England severely affected last weekend by the floods left by the Ciara storm.

How the weather will continue

The situation will remain difficult until Sunday afternoon in the southern regions of the United Kingdom, "where heavy and persistent rains will move eastward," said the Met in his Twitter account, and also provides some "violent showers" with "very windy" episodes in the north and west of the country.

In the northwestern French region of Brittany more than 30,000 homes were left without power for several hours and at nightfall there was still a need to restore service to some 18,000

The French meteorological services raised at dusk the orange alert for that region, since the gusts of wind fell below the 100 hour kilometers.

"The rainy episode is coming to an end. The cumulative rainfall measured for the episode exceeds 40 mm" in some sectors such as the departments of Finisterre and Morbihan, said Météo France.

Ferry traffic between France and Britain suffered delays during the day, explained the different companies that cover the route.
