(CNN) - The daughter of former US diplomat John Negroponte was arrested and charged with murder, police said.
Sophia Negroponte, 27, was arrested Thursday night at a house in Rockville, Maryland, after reports of a stabbing, the Montgomery County Police Department said in a statement.
Officers found a man, Yousuf Rasmussen, 24, inside the house "suffering from what appeared to be a sharp wound," the statement said.
He was pronounced dead at home, according to police.

Detectives determined that Rasmussen and Negroponte were known and that they were involved in a disagreement while they were inside the house, the statement said. During the disagreement, Rasmussen was injured, police warned.
The cause and manner in which Rasmussen was mortally wounded is unknown, and an autopsy is expected from the Office of the Medical Examiner in Baltimore.
It is not clear if Negroponte has a lawyer. Information on a bond for Negroponte is not yet available, according to the police statement.
