A bride of rather harsh beauty, a yes on the dung heap and before the eyes of a weird society: the second Ohlstadt beggar wedding developed into a foolishly funny event. 500 people were on their feet on Saturday.

Ohlstadt - The drummers from Ohlstadt had not yet been seen like this: The men were in fashionable dirndls, sported their lavishly stuffed bust and marched through the town center with red painted lips and long hair. In this way, the Hofmark chapel was the vanguard for the curious crowd of guests at the begging wedding. This old Bavarian carnival tradition is organized by the local Stoaheberverein every ten years and took place for the second time this year. 180 participants had registered and spent an exciting day together including a foolish wedding ceremony, parade, bridal pardon and supporting program. Wedding loader Manfred Poschenrieder ("Fred Lustinger") led the colorful company through the event.

The highlight was a bizarre marriage on the Rathausplatz, which was attended by around 300 onlookers in bright sunshine. The unlikely bride and groom drove up in a carriage, who was soon to say “yes” to a pile of manure: Katharina Schmautz, also known as “Da rossdamische Quirinus Kerschgeist Dressurreiter vo da Kreuth”, appeared as the groom. Uli Streif presented himself in a white wedding dress under the name "De guadgfuadate, vui z'schwere Ulrike boxing bag from Kotried". To amuse the audience, the trousseau was transported in the form of a bed and cupboard on its own carriage. Another component of the dowry was a stubborn young cattle, which was led by two male maids.

Florian Poschenrieder, the first chairman of the association, pretended to be the moderator and registrar "Balthasar Hopfinger". He introduced the two main actors to the audience and announced the terms of the marriage. For example, the bride should keep a safe distance of at least three meters if she throws porcelain at her husband in a hint of anger. In return, Quirinus is also allowed to physically chastise those entrusted to him - although this always has to make a friendly face. The registrar also titled the bride as a "passionate tax fraudster" while giving the groom a "diploma as a liquor seller". "Love passes, hectares exist," Quirinus said dryly and waited for his adored woman to say yes. When the latter pressed around, the groom helped with a stick blow - and the covenant was sealed. Instead of wedding rings there was a pair of handcuffs, which the local town hall chief Christian Scheuerer (party-free) put on in his role as clerk "Hieronymus Gmoahäusler". Finally Poschenrieder sounded from the dung heap: "On Ash Wednesday you are divorced again!" Pure romance.

Then the music played and the society formed a polonaise - led by the mayor. Exuberant and cheering loudly, the guests danced over the town hall square. The men with braids and dresses; the bearded women in the noise leather. Spectator Christa Priebsch from Ohlstadt, who had already been present at the first weddings, was enthusiastic: "The whole thing was once again very well taken care of and I had a lot of fun," she said. Poschenrieder was also extremely satisfied with the process: "Everyone is in a good mood, the weather is sensational - it couldn't have gone better." The festival ended in the Post inn, including the Gstanzlsinger "Erdäpfekraut".
