The distillery in Pentenried has changed hands. And he has a lot to do with the dilapidated building.

Pentenried - Everything ends up in the containers: tanks, burners and old rubber boots. What has accumulated in the old distillery in Pentenried in the past decades is now being disposed of. Andreas Krause (41) from Stockdorf bought the landmark of the place in summer from the distillery cooperative. Now he has started clearing and gutting the building. It should be ready for occupancy in two years. The days when agricultural alcohol was distilled from grain and potatoes are over.

A space for the public

As owner and manager, Krause wants to live in one part, the rest should be used commercially - among other things by his own company, functional form. A room should also be rented for events and thus made accessible to the public. "I want to give the locals a chance to use the building more than ever," says Krause. But until then, there is still a lot of work to be done in the project. "The thing is badly ramshackle," he says. The renovation would cost him more than the purchase. “The focus is still on preservation. We don't want to tear it down, I didn't buy it for that. ”A demolition is only an option“ if no stone can remain on the other ”. He does not yet want to reveal how exactly the rooms will be divided in the future. The community already had plans. He is currently working on the building structure analysis and the building application, which he will then submit to the municipality. But that much is already certain: he wants to tear down the old collapse extension of the distillery and replace it with a "charming new extension".

Krause is very taken with the charm of the Pentenried distillery. He spent a long time looking for an old building in need of renovation, the product designer says. Because: "I can let off steam in terms of design." Others would have been interested in the building. "There were competitors." In addition, the municipality had a right of first refusal, but did not use it for financial reasons. He negotiated for four years until he was awarded the contract by the cooperative.

Successful with climbing grips made of natural stone

Andreas Krause can now be found at his construction site early in the morning. And that is not his only occupation. While the Stockdorfer works full-time for BMW in Munich, he has also been self-employed for ten years. He successfully manufactures climbing grips from natural stone for climbing gyms under the umbrella of his company, Functionalform. These were used, for example, in 2018 at the qualification bouldering of the German championship. He also works in the bicycle sector. His specialty: carbon bike saddles.

Just a few months ago, the 41-year-old also had a small daughter. He still finds time for the old distillery in Pentenried. It probably helps him that at least his independent work is already taking place at his home. He already knows business and living in one place, which he will strive for in Pentenried in the future.
