An uninvolved woman is killed in an alleged car race in Easter 2019 in Moers. Two young men are charged, one for murder. The prosecutor demands a drastic punishment.
Kleve (dpa) - After the alleged illegal car race with a fatality in Moers, the public prosecutor is demanding life imprisonment for murder for the 22-year-old accident driver.
For the second defendant, who was driving the other car, the prosecution ordered a two-year suspended sentence for participating in a banned fatal car race. The judges in Kleve wanted to announce the judgment in the afternoon.
The Kosovar and the German are said to have had a race in Moers near Duisburg with their 600 hp cars in a residential area last April. The 22-year-old Kosovar collided with the small car of an uninvolved woman who had just turned onto the street. The 43-year-old was thrown out and died after three days. According to the expert, the accident vehicle accelerated up to 167 kilometers per hour during the race.
At the trial, the driver of the car, which was not directly involved in the accident, had forgiven the family of those killed. In a statement read by his lawyer, he said: "I'm incredibly sorry for what happened there. I wish I could undo everything."
