New Delhi-Sana
India today protested the remarks of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan over the disputed Kashmir region with Pakistan, and warned against the consequences of this on bilateral relations.
"The ministry has made a strong official diplomatic protest to Turkey and informed Turkish Ambassador Shaker Ozcan Torunlar that Erdogan's statements lacked an understanding of the history of the Kashmir conflict," according to Reuters, Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesman Ravish Kumar said.
He added: "The last position is another example of the pattern of Turkish interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and India considers this to be totally unacceptable and has severe consequences for our bilateral relations."
While India considers the entire Kashmir region an integral part of it, Erdogan said during a visit to Pakistan last week, "The situation of Indian Kashmir is deteriorating because of the radical changes that New Delhi implemented in the Muslim-majority region and that Turkey is in solidarity with the people of Kashmir."
