Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized the United States' proposal of the so-called deal of the century, stressing that Washington ignores this proposal the internationally recognized legal framework and international resolutions related to the Palestinian issue.

In an interview with the Italian newspaper Stampa published by Russia Today, Lavrov said that the United States, through this proposal, struck a wall with recognized international legal foundations for a settlement in the Middle East region that includes Security Council and United Nations General Assembly resolutions.

Lavrov questioned the possibility of the said Washington plan to settle the conflict between the Palestinians and the Israelis, pointing at the same time to the Palestinians' categorical rejection of this plan.

And US President Donald Trump announced on the twenty-eighth of last month the terms of the so-called deal of the century aimed at liquidating the Palestinian issue in a flagrant violation of international resolutions, which sparked widespread Palestinian rejection.

In another context, Lavrov pointed out that the situation in Libya did not witness a fundamental change after the international conference held in the German capital Berlin last month, considering that the contradictions between the parties to the Libyan crisis had reached a degree to a large extent that it is impossible to solve within the framework of one event.

Lavrov stressed the need to make progress on all tracks of the settlement of this crisis simultaneously.

Lavrov also pointed out in the context of the interview to the talks that will be held tomorrow in the Italian capital, Rome, between the foreign and defense ministers of Russia and Italy within the framework of the 2 + 2 formula and include international issues including the crisis in Syria and the Libyan file and the reduction of armaments and Russian relations with NATO, considering that these discussions constitute " A good opportunity to conduct a comprehensive analysis of major international issues in an attempt to take coordinated steps on them. ”

It is noteworthy that relations between Russia and Western countries deteriorated against the background of the Ukrainian crisis, the accession of Crimea to Russia in March 2014 and the imposition of sanctions on Russia, while Moscow stresses the importance of dialogue to resolve international issues and restore relations with the West to normal.
