Twenty people died and several others injured Monday in a "stampede" during a distribution of food and money to refugees and displaced in Diffa (southeast), medical sources told AFP. and humanitarian.

"We have a provisional toll of 20 deaths mainly of women and children killed during a stampede during a food and money distribution operation at the Maison des jeunes et de la Culture (MJC) in Diffa" , the capital Southeast Niger region, close to Nigeria, said a medical official. Humanitarian sources confirmed the number of killed and reported a dozen injured.
