She was one of the UK's most popular TV hosts - and is said to have been in love with Prince Harry * years ago. Now Caroline Flack was found dead in her apartment in London at the age of 40.

The AP news agency quoted a statement from her family on Saturday that confirmed Caroline Flack's death. A family lawyer told AP that she had committed suicide and was found in her apartment.

The exact cause of death is still unknown. As the Daily Mail reports, a close friend and producer was in her apartment shortly before her death. Caroline Flack and Prince Harry are said to have been in love in 2009

It was once a hot topic for the British tabloids: in 2009 Caroline Flack and Prince Harry - who was still going through his storm and stress period - were said to have been a couple. At that point, Harry was 24 and Caroline Flack was 30.

As the moderator revealed in her autobiography "Storm in a C Cup", something was actually going on at the time. Both are said to have been introduced by mutual friends. However, both gave up the data when the media got wind of the liaison. Caroline Flack wrote about the time together: “It is so unlikely to meet a prince that it would be strange not to confirm it. But when the story came out, the whole thing was done. We had to stop seeing each other. I was no longer Caroline Flack, TV presenter, I was Caroline Flack, Prince Harry's 'bit of rough' ”.

The latter wording is difficult to translate into German. The renowned Cambridge Dictionary defines the expression "a bit of rough" as "sexual partner from a lower social class". Perhaps the slightly vulgar German expression "mattress" would still be available, which is after all a derivative of the word "fairy tale".

Reactions to the death of Prince Harry's ex-girlfriend - boyfriend grieves

Shortly before Christmas, Caroline Flack caused a stir when she was arrested and charged with assault. She is said to have attacked her 27-year-old friend, tennis professional Lewis Burton, in her apartment. Therefore, a court hearing was scheduled for March 4. Because of the incident, she also lost her job as a moderator on "Love Island" .

Lewis Burton and Caroline Flack had apparently reconciled long ago. Lewis Burton wrote on Instagram: "Caroline is my girlfriend, everything else you read is not true." On Valentine's Day, he shared a photo with Caroline in an Insta story. A few hours later, she was probably already dead.

On Sunday, Lewis Burton spoke up for the first time after his girlfriend's death. He writes:

"My heart is broken, we had something special. I'm speechless. I am in pain. I miss you so much. I know that you felt safe with me. You always said, 'I don't think about anything else when I'm with you.' ”

At the time of death, however, he was not with his girlfriend. "I wasn't allowed to be there this time. I asked and asked. "

Lewis Burton made another promise to his late girlfriend : "I will be your voice, baby. I promise I will ask all the questions you wanted and I will get all the answers. Nothing will bring you back, but I will try to make you proud every day. I love you with my whole heart."
