Dresden - Numerous people gathered in Dresden on Saturday (February 15th) to oppose around 1,000 neo-Nazis who marched on the so-called funeral march to mark the 75th anniversary of the air raids on the city in World War II.

The demonstrators wanted to stand up for a cosmopolitan Dresden with signs, posters and banners. With one of the banners, however, there was a strange retouching in the regional magazine "Sachsenspiegel" broadcast by the MDR .

Counter-demonstration in Dresden: MDR retouches portrait of Hitler assassin

As the Spiegel had first reported, the portrait of the assassin Georg Elser had been removed from one of the banners. The incident quickly went viral on Twitter - and caused outrage. There was no editorial reference to the retouching in the program. "Why do you deliberately change the content of the banner without notice?" Writes a user on Twitter who noticed the change in the broadcast.

We apologize again for the edited photo in our broadcast yesterday. And this is how it came about: The graphic should find a general background image for the moderators to the demonstration in Dresden. (1/5)

The MDR finally took a position - and spoke on Twitter of an error in the image processing . Debt relief from the broadcaster also followed. "The graphic should find a general background image for the moderation on the demonstration in Dresden," continues the MDR on Twitter.

MDR report on neo-Nazi counter-demonstration: broadcaster explains - "Had processing not been tolerated"

There would have been no editorial reason for retouching . "The graphic should find a general background image for the moderation on the demonstration in Dresden . When looking for an image, the graphic designer tried to edit the photo so that it fit within the intended frame, ”the broadcaster further clarified. Unprocessed, the photo can be seen on the MDR website.

However, this was done without consulting the editorial team . "From an editorial point of view, we would not have tolerated this processing," it says. They were particularly annoyed because they reported “very extensively” about the demonstration and “thus also conveyed a picture of a cosmopolitan Dresden ”. The process was discussed with the graphic designer.

Creators of Georg Elser-Transparent react on Facebook: "Grotesque"

The creators of the Georg Elser banner finally spoke up on Facebook . "Our new demo transpi, which was painstakingly created last week, actually made it into the nationwide news!" Writes the left Socialist-Democratic Student Association in Leipzig (SDS Leipzig). The occasion was "grotesque" - but the MDR's apology had been accepted. "We are happy that Comrade Georg Elser * is on everyone's lips," it continues.

For another reason, the employees of a supermarket caused outrage some time ago. In an Edeka branch, butchers decided to wear shirts with a funny saying. What they didn't know, however, was that the lettering was based on a quote from Hitler.
