The Diamond Princess cruise ship is docking in Yokohama, Japan due to the pneumonia epidemic in Wuhan. The DAB Zheng Yongshun received the latest news. Two more Hong Kong people were confirmed on board.

Documents submitted by the government to the Legislative Council show that the number of Hong Kong people diagnosed with Diamond Princess has increased to 44, a substantial increase from before.

Government documents show that as of February 18, 454 people were diagnosed on the Diamond Princess. There were 350 Hong Kong residents holding SAR passports and foreign passports on board, of whom 44 were confirmed.

A family member wants to stay in Japan to take care of a confirmed patient

Zheng Yongshun said that as the Japanese government is successively announcing and notifying test results, the number of infected people may increase. Some family members were worried that the patients could not speak properly and considered not returning to Hong Kong to stay in Japan to take care of the patients.

Member of the Legislative Council of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong (DAB), Zheng Yongshun, is following up a case of Hong Kong people from the "Diamond Princess" in Japan. In a live broadcast this morning, he said that at least 11 Hong Kong people who have been diagnosed with the new coronavirus on the "Diamond Princess" cruise have been asked for help. They were sent to 6 to 8 hospitals for treatment. Two Hong Kong people admitted to one of the hospitals were elderly men. The hospital stated that the patient's condition was not serious and his condition had improved. He might have to stay in the hospital for another two to three weeks for observation.

Zheng Yongshun went to the Tokyo Self-Defense Forces Central Hospital today to deliver supplies to the Hong Kong people who were diagnosed and met with the hospital doctor. Zheng Yongshun said that some Hong Kong people who are staying in the hospital and taking care of the diagnosed family members report that communication difficulties due to language insufficiency, coupled with material shortages and unsuitable eating habits, etc., I hope the Immigration Department will continue to stay in Japan to provide them with translation and other support.

Zheng Yongshun pointed out that most of the Hong Kong people who came into contact with the ship wanted to return to Hong Kong by government charter flight, but some Hong Kong people will continue to stay there because they need to take care of their diagnosed family members. He also said that some people did not know how long they would stay in the hospital and had psychological pressure. They urged the Hong Kong Government to provide a telephone hotline for Hong Kong people who are hospitalized to take care of their needs. He revealed that some Hong Kong people who were close contacts still remained in the guest room of the cruise ship, and it was still unknown whether they could disembark. He hoped that the authorities would provide assistance as soon as possible.
