(CNN Spanish) - Colombian cyclist Egan Bernal was awarded the 2019 Revelation Award at the Laureus Awards, which recognize the best athletes in the world, this Monday in Berlin, Germany.

Bernal, 22, won the 2019 revelation prize for his triumph at the Tour de France last year, where he became the youngest cyclist to win the race in the 110 years of the competition.

In the revelation category of the year, Bernal was nominated along with Olympic swimmer Regan Smith of the United States, tennis players Bianca Andreescu of Canada and Coco Cauff of the United States, the national rugby team of Japan and boxer Andy Ruiz of the United States.
