(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 18 - Hundreds of family members of innocent victims of mafias from all over Italy gathered in Piazza Montecitorio for a garrison where a poster was illustrated with a series of requests "for justice and respect for established rights By law". "While the House votes for the Milleproroghe fruit of tiring compromises - said Don Luigi Ciotti - we are here in the square in silence to express our mistrust. But we must never forget the positive things of these years, we want to continue to give trust in serious politics. But we have to raise our voice when someone chooses silence. We cannot be silent and helpless. The most dangerous mafia is the mafia of words, it is immobility, bureaucracy, promising and not doing. The fight against mafias it cannot become a rhetorical exercise, an instrument of easy consent, "stressed the president of Libera.

"Thanks to Libera and Don Ciotti for the tireless support to the innocent victims of the mafias and their family members who ask for justice and respect for their rights," said Francesca Businarolo, president of the Chamber Justice Commission, on the sidelines of the garrison in Piazza Montecitorio held today by the families of the victims of mafias from all over Italy, together with the network of Libera di don Ciotti. Businarolo added that "the requests made are of absolute common sense, starting from the equalization of the victims of duty and the mafias to the victims of terrorism, to avoid absurd disparities on the basis of the type of crime. We will work together with all the parties involved to evaluate how give maximum legislative support ".

Here are the points in detail:
- that the status of Mafia victim is also recognized for people who lost their lives due to mafia-type criminal events dated before 1 January 1961 and for whom the conditions for recognition are met;
- equating victims of duty and mafias with victims of terrorism, in order to avoid further disparities between victims based on the type of crime;
- that as regards the extraneousness of the victim and his family members up to the 4th degree, as required by the rules, a case-by-case assessment is carried out, relating to the attendance of the survivor and the victim's family members and not on the degree of kinship;
- that with regard to prescriptions and forfeiture, also foreseen by a recent circular from the Ministry of the Interior, careful and urgent reflection is made to avoid unfairly restrictive interpretations;
- a reasoned reorganization of all the rules governing the rights (benefits) envisaged in favor of the victims of the mafias, in order to make the fruition effective which, compared to some fundamental points, remains very often only on paper; just as we ask that the times of the evaluation of the single petitions do not dilate enormously;
- that attention to the victim is placed at the center of the legislator's reflection, in order to make the European directives on the protection of the victim and his relatives, equivalent to him, particularly in relation to the same position of family members, also operational in Italy of the victims in the trial, visibly limited compared to that of the offender, also given the reocentric approach of our procedural system;
- we promote support for victims of intentional violent crime, the so-called crimin. (HANDLE)
