Pinned by the European Union, the Cayman Islands also appear at the top of the index of the most opaque countries, published Tuesday by the British association Tax Justice Network. This small Caribbean archipelago, a British overseas territory, has seen its volume of offshore financial services jump by 21% in two years. It alone weighs 4.6% of the world market.

But, for Tax Justice Network, one of the main black spots of financial opacity is located in the United States. Number two in its index, the country has supplanted Switzerland (in third place), which has constantly reduced its famous culture of secrecy for ten years. Conversely, "the United States is against the global trend towards more transparency," said Markuz Meinzer, director of Tax Justice Network. They alone account for 21% of the global dark finance market, five times more than Switzerland, four times more than Singapore and almost twice as much as Luxembourg.
