Dominican Republic suspends municipal elections 3:21
(CNN Spanish) - The plenary of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) of the Dominican Republic announced on Monday that the new municipal elections will be held on March 15 and that only physical ballots will be used in all polling stations.
According to a statement from the JCE, for these new elections “the proposals of candidates will apply for municipal offices that were approved by the corresponding electoral boards, which will appear on ballots whose total impression is authorized by the Central Electoral Board, corresponding to the same candidacies that participated on February 16, 2020. ”
Last Sunday, the municipal elections were suspended after a massive failure in the automated voting system that was being applied in the 18 most populous municipalities in the country. In these elections, more than 3,800 municipal positions are decided.
