Twelve men are in custody - they are accused of having formed a right-wing terrorist cell. The left faction demands clarification in the Bundestag.
Berlin / Düsseldorf (dpa) - After the arrest of several suspected members of a right-wing terrorist cell, the left in the Bundestag has requested a report on the suspects at the next meeting of the interior committee.
"In particular, I wonder whether V-people from the Office for the Protection of the Constitution were involved," said Ulla Jelpke, a left-wing domestic politician at the Rheinische Post in Düsseldorf. Often enough, "the secret services themselves contributed to building right-wing structures or held their protective hands over them so as not to endanger their sources, as in the case of the NSU," Jelke told the newspaper.
The Bundestag deputy pointed out that a police member was among the suspected extremists. It was announced on Friday that a police officer had been suspended. The man is reportedly one of the arrested.
Federal Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD) emphasized the need to take a harder line against online hate. "The case shows once again how extremists are uniting to attack people in our country and our democracy," Lambrecht also told the Rheinische Post.
The members of the alleged right-wing terrorist cell around Werner S. are said to have planned attacks on six mosques in smaller cities. In security circles, their plans are considered a "particularly serious case". After the raids in six federal states on Friday, the investigating judge at the Federal Court of Justice issued arrest warrants against twelve men.
