Berlin (dpa) - The destruction caused by the storm "Sabine" cost the insurance industry in Germany according to industry information 675 million euros. This puts "Sabine" in sixth place in the worst winter storms since 2002, the German insurance association GDV said in Berlin.
The worst storm continues to be "Kyrill" from 2007 with insured losses of more than three billion euros, followed by "Jeanette" (2002) and "Friederike" (2018). The hurricane depression "Sabine" had caused high damage in Germany, particularly to houses and businesses - according to the information, insurance companies accrue around 600 million euros. The car insurers are less affected with 75 million euros.
Shortly after the storm that hit Germany from 9 to 11 February, experts from the insurance broker Aon had already estimated the insured losses in this country at 500 to 700 million euros. "Sabine" had also caused severe delays in long-distance traffic. Trains stayed in the stations and flights were canceled, commuters often had to endure.
