The carnival fever is rising: after a two-year break, a gaudi worm takes place again on Sunday in Moorenweis. Record participation is already emerging. That fits, because two anniversaries are celebrated: 100 years of TSV Moorenweis and 60 years of carnival parade.

Moorenweis - Over 60 groups with around 1100 active participants have registered with the Organizing Committee. “An unbelievable run,” says its leader Franz Seiler. "There have never been so many registrations for a Moorenweiser carnival parade." 25 cars alone are expected to roll in, plus foot groups and individual numbers. "The trend is increasingly towards foot groups with small support vehicles," said Seiler.

Such a group of feet are the "blackbirds", a few citizens of Moorenweiser around the town councilor Georg Büger. "The name comes from the fact that the majority of us live on Amselstrasse." In an old barn right next to the maypole, the blackbirds have been building the vehicle with which they want to cause a sensation when they move. The topic is Bavarian space travel. A rocket assembled from empty oil barrels is hung in the fork of a bulldog, which in turn is optically transformed into an old steam locomotive. "We want to show that the Bavarian state government does so modern without being so modern," says Büger.

In the meantime, the boys' carnival wagon is being built in an agricultural hall on the outskirts of the village. An apolitical but world-famous topic is processed here: the 85th anniversary of the board game Monopoly. "Although we only found out about the anniversary when we had already decided on the topic," says association chairman Simon Schäffler and laughs. In order to give the car a local reference, instead of Badstrasse and Schlossallee, Moorenweiser streets appear on the game board.

"The topics are characterized by their diversity," says Franz Seiler. And he reveals that in addition to local politics and culture, federal politics, sport and world affairs will also play a role.

Due to the record participation, the organizers have changed the train route slightly. It leads past the former Gasthof Zur Post. The organizers hope that the area around the war memorial will be relieved. "If you like it a little quieter, you can also take the Ringstrasse up to the Gasthof Schamberger," says Seiler. There is no return train, but you can see the train twice on the central section.

At the sales stands along the route you can fortify yourself with sausages and donuts before the start at 2 p.m. The Garden from Moorenweis and Kottgeisering as well as the brass bands from Moorenweis and Walleshausen are also scheduled to appear at 12.30 p.m. "And there will be one or two surprises," promises Franz Seiler.

The carnival procession

starts on Sunday, February 23, at 2 p.m. (set up from 1 p.m. in Römer- and Erlenstraße) at the confluence of the Pfalz- and Römerstraße. After the train, the fools move to the TSV hall, where the après-ski bar and professional DJ continue. There are six fixed sales stands on the train route, which are open from 12.30 p.m.
