A spokesman for Boris Johnson had previously repeatedly denied comment on Andrew Sabisky, whose appointment attracted much criticism after the Mail on Sunday published comments published online on behalf of Sabisky in 2014 and 2016.

In addition to controversial talk about contraception, Sabisky also said statistics show that the African American population in the United States has a lower IQ than that of the white population and, in an interview in 2016 with the online publication Schools Week discussed the benefits of eugenics.

The British press reported that Sabisky had been hired following an unusual call from one of Johnson's main advisers, Dominic Cummings, who in his blog post in early January advocated the recruitment of " wacky and marginal people with special talents " to bring new ideas to government.

" The media hysteria around my old things online is crazy but I wanted to help (the government), not be a distraction, " said Andrew Sabisky on Twitter. " So I decided to resign (...) I said yes to do concrete work, not to be in the middle of a giant smear campaign: if I can't work properly, what good is it? ".

Labor opposition and at least two elected members of Johnson’s Conservative Party had called for the dismissal of Sabisky. A spokesman for the British leader had refused to confirm the exact function of Sabisky.
