The United States announced on Tuesday that it will now equate Chinese state media with diplomatic missions, in the face of what US officials call Beijing's growing propaganda.

Five media outlets, including the new China news agency and public television CGTN, will now have to obtain approval from the US State Department to purchase properties in the United States. They will also have to provide lists of all their employees, including the Americans, according to State Department officials.
