You have to choose growth

The Corona epidemic reminds us of the temporality of economic variables, which our tendency is to treat as fixed. For several decades, we have been dealing with high inflation, we have treated it as a given - it actually seemed low enough to us when it was single-digits, even when it was very close to double-digits.

Today's challenges are new and different - neither inflation nor unemployment - the economic plagues that accompanied the world throughout the last century. Now the challenges are credit and growth. We live for a long time in a very low, zero interest rate environment, which encourages banks to push us for credit in large quantities and not necessarily cheaply.

The public, like the state and the business sector, raises the amount of credit it takes, the leverage. This is not a local phenomenon but what is happening in the developed world. The problem is that growth does not match the increase in credit, which means that we are, to a certain extent, living in the fray. This reality is inflamed with the hope of growth, which is lingering for an hour. The situation in Israel is better than most countries in the world.

Just keep in mind that Israel cannot afford to make mistakes like other countries. On the eve of elections, those who understand this know that the key consideration in making the right choice is growth. Candidates who propose increasing risky duties for our future.
