Last updated: 2020-02-20 04:33Police launched a crackdown on illegal gambling, smashed an illegal sparrow gambling stall upstairs in Yuen Long and arrested 12 people. Based on information and in-depth investigations, officers of the Special Duty Squad of Yuen Long Police District conducted an anti-illegal gambling operation at about 5 pm yesterday (19th). They raided a unit located in Paochengfang and smashed a suspected illegal sparrow gambling stall. A 46-year-old local woman was arrested for "operating a gambling establishment". Another 10 local men and a local woman, aged between 40 and 70, and a 44-year-old Mainland man holding a two-way permit, were arrested for "gambling in a gambling establishment". All arrested men and women are being detained for investigation.
Police also received 3 electric sparrow counters, 12 sparrow chairs, 6 sets of sparrows and about $ 2,700 in the unit.
Police remind members of the public that operating illegal gambling establishments and gambling in illegal establishments are serious crimes. Citizens should not try the law by themselves. Police will continue to take enforcement action against illegal gambling.
