The Public Authority for Fish Resources plans to expand the small family fish farms project to include five new governorates to be added to the provinces of Latakia, Tartous, and Homs.

The Director of the General Authority for Fish Resources, Dr. Abdel Latif Ali, stated in a statement to the SANA Economic Bulletin that the production of farms last year amounted to one million carp fingerlings and 400 thousand fingerlings of all kinds, stressing the authority's endeavor to secure the need for dams and family farms, owners of licensed farms, dam investors and research experiences in the authority, noting to meet All requests submitted, 146,000 fingerlings were sold to licensed breeders and dam investors.

Ali emphasized that the authority expanded the small family fish farms project that started in 2018 by providing support for 9 family farms in Jableh countryside, bringing the number of farms in 2019 to 292 farms, including 96 in Tartus, 93 in Lattakia and 103 in Homs, noting that the authority is continuing work These farms periodically monitor the quality of the food provided to them by relying on the remains of the home, in addition to providing 46 thousand fingerlings for free from the general carp type, and the experiment will be generalized in other provinces.

Ali pointed out that the aim of the project is to support small projects, provide the local market with fish production, spread the culture of fish farming among citizens, secure healthy food for the rural family, increase per capita meat of important and necessary fish, and take advantage of the waters of fish protein rich ponds in watering crops, explaining that the Authority's revenue in the year The past amounted to 320 million pounds, from the sale of the products of technical experiments of comb and carp fish and the returns of 9 invested dams and sale of fingerlings to licensed farm owners and dam investors and in the field of protection and fishing regulation between Ali that the foundations and conditions for the operation of boats For a worker in regional and international waters and implementing the prohibition of fishing in inland waters from 3-15 to 5-30 to allow fish to reproduce and grow, pointing to the existence of several difficulties that the sector suffers from, such as the lack of some necessary equipment for the work of breeding and spawning fish, overfishing and violating using illegal means The lack of investment in fish farming, the reluctance of some breeders to breed as a result of the high costs, the lack of specialized feed plants, the large number of fish farms and water bodies leaving the investment and the inability to bring in new marine fish species due to the economic blockade.

Ali called for support and encouragement of scientific research in the field of fish and aquatic life, granting loans to fish farmers with simple benefits and encouraging investors to establish feed factories for fish and directing to intensive fish farming in floating cages in fresh and salt water, creating a specialized section for fish and the aquatic environment within Syrian universities, and securing and supporting feedstuffs for owners Licensed farms and facilitating procedures for the private sector to establish fresh and marine fish farms.
