For 2020: New major festival planned in Munich - it is already known worldwide

First report from September 18, 2019:

Munich - The Lollapalooza Festival is to come to the Olympic site in Munich. According to information from our newspaper, the organizer and Olympiapark GmbH are about to sign the contracts. A spokesman for the GmbH confirmed on Monday: "We are in discussions." However, the festival, which is successful in its country of origin, the USA and now also Europe, is to be given a different name in Munich.

It is a magnet for visitors in Berlin. Around 70,000 people attended the Lollapalooza festival on the Olympic site there on the first day. It was the fourth edition of the event in the federal capital where David Guetta was the main attraction in the stadium on September 7th. Before that, there were other stages, information stands (political and apolitical), drama, art, installations and handicrafts. Over two days, more than 60 bands and musicians played.

Lollapalooza: Will the festival take place in Munich in September 2020?

All of this should no longer only be offered on the Berlin Olympic site, but also on Munich. According to information from our newspaper, the contracts between Olympiapark GmbH and the organizer are ready for signature, an appointment is also announced: September 5 and 6, 2020.

However, the event should not be called Lollapalooza, but Superbloom. The organizers are the same. They promise a new festival for Munich, which should not only be about music. Theater, urban art, workshops or readings should also be offered. The aim is to cooperate with local partners.

Lollapalooza: This is what the festival in Munich could look like

There are four stages, one in the stadium and another in the hall. The organizers are expecting around 45,000 visitors for a two-day festival at the beginning, but with 85,000 guests over three days in the coming years. That would be roughly comparable in size to the "Munic Mash".

In any case, the supervisory board is enthusiastic. "If they get that and it attracts visitors to the park, then I think that's really good," says city councilor and AR member Thomas Ranft (FDP). “Life in the park is always good. The park has only the leasing business as an income opportunity. ”Another member of the supervisory board said:“ That would be a fantastic win for the Olympic Park and the city. ”

Lollapalooza has been in Europe since 2015

The Lollapalooza Festival originally comes from the United States and has been a cultural festival there since 1991 as a music festival with alternative rock, rap and punk rock bands, dance, comedy, fashion and art. Since 2005, the festival has been held exclusively in Chicago's Grant Park. Since 2011 there are branches of the event in Chile, Brazil and Argentina. The Lollapalooza took place in Europe for the first time in 2015, initially on the site of the former Tempelhof Airport in Berlin.

The term Lollapalooza probably dates from around 1900 and means "outstanding example" or "something extraordinarily impressive". Festival founder Perry Farrell is said to have chosen this name after hearing the term in a short film of the Three Stooges by actor Moe Howard.
