Netflix, the main streaming platform, announced that it will make the series El Eternauta , based on the science fiction comic created by screenwriter Héctor Germán Oesterheld and cartoonist Francisco Solano López.

The direction will be in charge of Bruno Stagnaro .

The Eternauta will be available worldwide, not only in Argentina. No details were given on which cast will be called for this fiction or its release date.

With a large number of sequels and reissues, El Eternauta was initially published in Weekly Zero Hour from 1957 to 1959.

The plot focuses on an alien invasion of the Earth through a toxic snowstorm that ends most of the population, and the resistance of the population of Buenos Aires.

Its protagonist is Juan Salvo, the Eternauta, who tells the story to Oesterheld himself.

The comic strip is considered one of the most important in the country and in Latin America. His 2015 edition of Fantagraphics Books for the United States won three nominations for the Eisner Awards, and won in the category "best collection or project for archiving press strips".

In a press conference held at the Usina del Arte, in La Boca, Netflix also confirmed that it will produce a series about Juan Manuel Fangio, the best Argentine driver of all time . It's going to be called Fangio, the man who tamed the machines.

The announcement was made by Reed Hastings, creator of the platform.

“Argentina is one of the ten countries with more subscribers in the world. Brazil and Mexico beat him by little. What we are going to do is continue investing in content, ”said Hastings, 59, born in Boston, a lawyer, two children, graduated from Stanford University. He started as a software developer, and in 1991 he founded Pure Software.

And then he added: “Ten years ago my mother passed away and I told my father where in the world I wanted to go ... And Argentina told me. We ate a steak and had a bottle of wine. I have fabulous memories of this country. In 2011 we launched Netflix in Latin America and since then I interact with this country. ”

The announcements of Netflix were made at the Usina del Arte, in La Boca.

He also referred to the series about former prosecutor Alberto Nisman that can be seen on Netflix. "There are many Argentines who in the last month have watched the documentary about Nisman. We are very focused, we do not make video games or news, we are in love with the series," he said.
