Three questions for Victor Perez…

2020-02-19T16:15:01.854Z

On the eve of starting the WGC-Mexico Championship, his second World Championship after his fourth place at the HSBC-Champions last November, the current No. 38 world takes stock at the microphone of the European Tour.

What was your state of mind before this first 2020 World Championship? I am very happy to be here, in a WGC with limited scope and inevitably a lot of points at stake, both worldwide and for the Race. I took two weeks break, I arrive rather fresh. So it's a great week ahead. I hope to shine in the first round ( this Thursday ). Here in Mexico City, the course is complicated, small and we play at altitude ( 2,286 meters ). The playing conditions may be physical with this setting. We will have to be patient.

How do you analyze this good start to the season on the European Tour, with in particular this second place in Abu Dhabi in January? I know I can do good things at big tournaments. My fourth place in Shanghai ( WGC-HSBC Champions ) gives me a lot of confidence before this WGC-Mexico Championship. My season really started off well with this second place in Abu Dhabisuivie with two other beautiful weeks ( Editor's note, in Dubai (16th) and in Saudi Arabia (leader after two rounds )). I take a lot of positive from this start to the season. But it's still new to me.

The Ryder Cup is a bit far away ( September 25-27 ) but are you already thinking about it? This is my second season at the highest level. I know I still have a lot to learn. But when you achieve good results in big events, you necessarily think about it. It's in the back of my mind. If I continue to play well, the question will come up more often ( Editor's note, it is in third place for European points, for fourth in world points ). When you are a kid, you think about playing the Grand Slam tournaments but also the Ryder Cup. We all dream of being part of the European Ryder Cup team.
