Leonie Charlotte von Hase is 35 years old, she is the mother of a son of three and runs a vintage online clothing sales company based in the city of Kiel. Nothing unusual for an enterprising and self-confident woman, but Leonie wrote a new chapter in the world of beauty pageants when last Sunday she was elected Miss Germany 2020. The election marks a milestone, since it is the first time in the 93 years of history of the contest that a 35-year-old woman is crowned and, in addition, by a jury that was composed only of women.
The jury had already announced revolutionary measures: he raised the minimum age to participate in the contest at age 18, allowed mothers to participate without obligation to be married and announced that none of the contestants would have to pose in a bikini. But that was not all. The swimwear was replaced by evening dresses and casual fashion and even, for the first time in its history, one of the applicants was pregnant.

"It was nice to see women in all their diversity and with all their history," said RTL host Frauke Ludowig, a juror. "Germany can be proud of its women." The organization of the contest, Miss Germany Corporation (MGC), announced that these modifications were intended to end the clichés and stereotypes surrounding the contest.
“My priority is and remains the family. I cannot put everything aside to be a dummy, ”said the winner, revealing that her victory would not make her an advertising or commercial tool, because of her new title. “I have no desire to be the typical miss. My priorities are not going to change because they give me one more role, ”he announced.
The biography of Leonie Charlotte von Hase already announced changes for the contest. "Born in Namibia, my identity as a fourth German-African generation is impregnated with cultural influences," he wrote on revealing his professional life on the contest website. “In Cape Town I studied interpretation, English literature and communication and, finally, I graduated in Creative Brand Strategy. In 15 years I have worked as a waitress, editor, marketing consultant, event organizer, buyer and design agent, stylist, creative director, journalist, ghost writer, food blogger, model and actress; I have lived in London, Stuttgart, Berlin, Athens and Milan. ”
An independent woman in the middle of the MeToo movement: “My participation comes from the full conviction and support for the change of concept of Miss Germany. Women have long since stopped being interested in fighting for a standard of conventional beauty. My perception of a beautiful woman is the strength, character and authenticity that radiates. ”
