Germany: in Hanau, the stupor after the racist attack

A hookah bar called Midnight. All around, online betting shops run by immigrants, small casinos, two anonymous hotels in the heart of a cosmopolitan district. The killer of Hanau chose his targets before sowing death in this industrial city of 100,000 inhabitants near Frankfurt.

Nine people killed, all from immigrant backgrounds, and scenes of violence that are now repeated in Germany. Tobias R., a 43-year-old lonely German with paranoid leanings killed strangers because they hated them. He considered them unassimilable to this “ pure and superior ” people who embody Germany. And to overcome the impasse of impossible integration, he called for wiping the Muslim countries off the map. He committed his murders on Wednesday evening between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. before turning his gun on himself and his 72-year-old mother.
